Bigelow strongest in 5th Assembly

In touting the new system for electing legislators and congressional representatives in California, advocates emphasized that the top two vote-getters might well be from the same party. This prediction could very well come true in the 5th Assembly District, a heavily Republican district that stretches from South Lake Tahoe to south of Mammoth Lakes, with a toe boot into Madera County.

The district sprawls across nine counties and well over half of the geography is within a national forest or park. Two-thirds of the population is white and this area supported the Republican candidates in the last gubernatorial and presidential elections.

Bigelow for Assembly 2012 Update: Amador Ledger Dispatch Article
Mine gathering brings Bigelow to Amador
By Scott Thomas Anderson

Frank Bigelow is still getting used to balancing sleep with the mandates of a high profile assembly race — especially when it comes to racing out in the middle of the night to save lives as a volunteer firefighter.

Bigelow, life-long rancher and Madera County Supervisor, still straps on his fire boots at all hours to confront burning structures and medical emergencies. He abides by the credo that drives all volunteer responders in wide-open places, “If we don’t go, no one will.”

BIGELOW SUPPORTS EFFORT TO REPEAL FIRE TAX
SACRAMENTO – Standing up for rural California residents, rancher and volunteer firefighter Frank Bigelow announced full support of Assembly Bill 1506, to repeal the newly-imposed fire tax.

“As a fourth generation cattle rancher and volunteer firefighter, I have seen constant attacks by the Legislature on rural Californians, and the fire tax is no different,” Bigelow said. “The state’s new fire tax doubles the payment required by homeowners for fire protection, while delivering no increased fire service.”
